The Lawrence Family in 17th Century Merriott Records

Lawrence was the most represented surname in all the Merriott censuses and Parish Registers. This fact, added to name repetition, makes the Lawrences the most difficult family to try to sort out. Q/SR/170/20 Evidence of John Long and John Conway of Merriott that they were on the road from Hinton St George to Merriott in company with George, Charles
and Mary, children of Sarah Lawrence, who took green branches in their hands and when Long refused a branch Charles called him "Tory toad" and all three threw
stones and clods of earth at Long and Conway. JP: Henry Walrond.   Date: 19 May 1687.
