Earliest Records

In 1653 Catharine Mitchell,  Daughter of widr Mitchell of Merriott,  married Robert Moore (a son, Robert, was born in 1655).  Several marriages & baptisms followed, with the spelling of the surname mostly as MICHELL.   There were plenty of mentions of the name throughout the records.

Two Mitchell males are mentioned in the Hearth Tax lists for Merriott 1664 - 5:  
Nicho. Mitchell & Tho. Mitchell.
