Pattemore to the USA & back again

Walter Pattemore, born about 1880, was the son of Samuel Pattemore & Emma Shutler.  An abbreviated family tree appears below.

Walter & his best friend, Tom Webb boarded the Empress of Briton in 1908, arriving in Quebec, Canada on October 26, 1908.  Tom was following his fiancée, Marion Heard, who had emigrated with her family to the USA the previous year.  See also Webb to USA

Walter & Tom entered the USA via the Grand Trunk Railroad, passing through Detroit to Chicago, Illinois.  Marion & Tom were married on April 11, 1909.  Walter fell in love with Marion's younger sister, Elsie, and they soon married and had their first child, Fred.   Eventually the Pattemore family returned to England for what was to have been a short visit.  However the outbreak of World War I intervened, and the family was to remain in England.   During the war, Walter developed a good business in motor haulage transport.  They were also the proprietors of the Antelope Inn, Crewkerne.
