Stuckeys from Seavington to Queensland, Australia (not yet
connected to Merriott Stuckeys)
The first mention of the surname STUCKEY was the baptismal entry:
21 January 1652: A man child, borne & named John, of William? (difficult to
read) Stuckey.
The following year (13 March 1653) a William Stuckey was
buried, and on 10 April 1690 a Grace Stuckey was buried. These are the only
Stuckeys in the 17th century parish records for Merriott.
The surname Stuckey doesn't get another mention until 100 years later.
Presumably this was then a new family who moved to Merriott from elsewhere,
possibly Kingsbury Episcopi.
On 25 December 1792 Henry Stuckey married Mary Trask. Henry was noted as a Pauper
in 1794. Their children were baptised as follows:
1 June 1794 George
6 March 1796 Amelia
9 April 1798 George
15 May 1809 Joseph
There was only one Burial:
22 August 1794 George Stuckey
